Our Camphosting Debut

Our Camphosting Debut

August to Early September 2023 Maumee Bay State Park, Oregon, Ohio We had stayed at this campground several times during our travels and were impressed. The campground and amenities are great, as is the location. The park is on Lake Erie not far from Toledo. The campsites are sunny and grassy, the bath house and laundry are spotless, and there are great bike paths to the beach. On one visit, we chatted with volunteers who encouraged us to consider camphosting….

Chicago to Toledo

Mid August 2022 Downtown Chicago has very limited options for camping, so we chose to stay at a Harvest Host location just west of town. The VFW in Wheaton turned out to be a great place to stay. August 2021 We squeezed a lot of traveling into the month of August. Highways, byways, and ferries. Here are some of the highlights: Michigan We took the ferry from Manitowoc, Wisconsin to Ludington, Michigan. The SS Badger is the last coal-fired passenger vessel operating on the Great Lakes. We had a sunny afternoon to relax in deck chairs and read. Unless you like bingo, reading and snoozing are the major activities. The 62 mile trip takes four hours and crosses…

Punderson State Park 8/24/2020 This was a quick, one-night stop on our way to Michigan, but we would gladly have stayed longer. We met a new friend, a special lady who invited us to visit her in Corpus Christi this winter as we start our trek west. We had a great campsite along the water’s edge and a nice dinner in the old-timey Punderson Lodge across the lake. The lodge is rumored to be haunted, but further exploration of that…
